Legendre
Uncertainties in modeling low-energy neutrino induced reactions on iron group nuclei
Uncertainties modeling low-energy neutrino induced reactions group nuclei
2011/10/14
Charged-current neutrino-nucleus cross sections for 54,56Fe and 58,60Ni are calculated and compared using frameworks based on relativistic and Skyrme energy density functionals, and the shell model. T...
Orbital effects of the time-dependent component of the Pioneer anomaly
Orbital effects time-dependent component Pioneer anomaly
2011/10/17
We work out the impact that the recently determined time-dependent component of the Pioneer Anomaly (PA), interpreted as an additional exotic acceleration of gravitational origin with respect to the w...
Detection of jet precession in the active nucleus of M81
Galaxies: Individual: M81 – galaxies: active – galaxies: jets – galaxies: nuclei – radio continuum: galaxies–radiation mechanisms: nonthermal – astrometry
2011/9/27
(See the complete and formatted abstract in the paper). We report on VLBI monitoring of the low-luminosity AGN (LLAGN) in M81 at 1.7, 2.3, 5, and 8.4GHz. These observations are phase-referenced to the...
We study the hybrid inflationary potential in a regime where the defect field is light, and more than 60 e-folds of accelerated expansion occur after the symmetry breaking transition. Using analytic a...
Photon noise limited radiation detection with lens-antenna coupled Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detectors
Photon noise limited radiation Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detectors
2011/10/13
Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detectors (MKIDs) have shown great potential for sub-mm instrumentation because of the high scalability of the technology. Here we demonstrate for the first time in the su...
We show that matter yukawa couplings of the New Minimal Supersymmetric (SO(10)) GUT(NMSGUT) are subject to very significant GUT scale threshold corrections. Including these threshold effects relaxes t...
Random matrix approach in search for weak signals immersed in background noise
Random matrix approach search signals immersed background noise
2011/10/17
We present new, original and alternative method for searching signals coded in noisy data. The method is based on the properties of random matrix eigenvalue spectra. First, we describe general ideas a...
Short Gamma-ray Bursts: the mass of the accretion disk and the initial radius of the outflow
Short Gamma-ray Bursts:accretion disk initial radius outflow
2011/10/9
In this work we estimate the accretion-disk mass in the specific scenario of binary-neutron-star-merger with current observational data. Assuming that the outflows of short Gamma-ray Bursts (GRBs) are...
Reconstructing signals from noisy data with unknown signal and noise covariance
statistics, information theory, statistical mechanics
2011/10/8
We derive a method to reconstruct Gaussian signals from linear measurements with Gaussian noise. This new algorithm is intended for applications in astrophysics and other sciences. The starting point ...
Recent results of the Pierre Auger (Auger) fluorescence detectors indicate an increasingly heavy composition of ultra-high energy (UHE) cosmic rays (CRs). Assuming that this trend continues up to the ...
Accretion disks around kicked black holes: Post-kick Dynamics
Accretion disks kicked black holes: Post-kick Dynamics
2011/9/29
Numerical calculations of merging black hole binaries indicate that asymmetric emission of gravitational radiation can kick the merged black hole at up to thousands of km/s, and a number of systems ha...
A fast 2D image reconstruction algorithm from 1D data for the Gaia mission
methods: data analysis
2011/9/26
A fast 2-dimensional image reconstruction method is presented, which takes as input 1-dimensional data acquired from scans across a central source in different orientations. The resultant reconstructe...
