植被演替一直以来都是生态学研究的中心主题。已有研究大多集中在植物群落的演替方面，包括演替的物种组成和植被特征等，而较少关注土壤微生物群落在环境序列上的演替过程。土壤微生物是全球生物地球化学物质循环的主要参与者，而且土壤微生物群落较植物对环境变化更敏感，并影响植物生态系统过程，因此，研究植被演替过程中土壤微生物的影响和响应对于深入认识演替的生态学过程具有重要意义。
